Some earlier activations show CarPlay in a narrow tile beside a BMW panel. If your firmware supports it — NBT EVO ID5/6 firmware N–Y, or EntryNav2 firmware 07-20 and newer — we rewrite the activation so CarPlay fills the entire widescreen, edge to edge.
This is a separate product for cars that already have CarPlay switched on. If yours does not, the standard activation above already includes full screen wherever the firmware allows.

An old map cannot guide you down a road it has never heard of
BMW adds tens of thousands of miles of new road to its map data every year and re-routes thousands more. Junctions are rebuilt, motorway slip roads move, new estates and business parks appear, speed limits are revised. Your car can only navigate the world its map already knows about.
That is why a BMW navigation update is not cosmetic. On an out-of-date map the system will confidently route you onto a road closed two years ago, show blank space where a new bypass now runs, and hand your instrument cluster and head-up display a speed limit that is simply wrong. Arrival times drift, fuel is wasted on detours, and the safety features that read the map — speed limit display, predictive gear selection, cornering headlights on some models — work from stale information.
What actually changes with a current map
A fresh release rebuilds the routing graph the car uses. New motorway sections and slip roads appear, closed roads are removed, and hundreds of thousands of points of interest — fuel, charging, restaurants, hotels, car parks — are refreshed so “find nearest” returns places that exist. Speed-limit data is revised for the whole region, and on electric and hybrid models range and charging planning improve because they are computed against accurate road data.
BMW publishes new map data once or twice a year per region and the schedule differs by region: Europe may already be on a 2026 release while North America is still on 2025. Whichever region you drive in, we supply the newest release BMW has issued for your exact system, checked against your VIN before it leaves us. Why your car’s own navigation still wins
Google Maps is excellent on a phone. But BMW and MINI were engineered around their built-in navigation, and there are things a phone on the vent simply cannot do.
- A phone on its own
Nothing reaches the cluster or the head-up display. Guidance stays on the phone screen, off to one side, and disappears whenever a call arrives or the screen sleeps.
Coverage decides whether it works. Lose signal and you lose live routing — precisely in the tunnels and remote roads where you most want it.
It is a device you have to manage. A mount, a cable, a phone that heats up in summer and drains through a long drive — and none of it knows your range, your charging needs or your driving mode.
- Built-in BMW navigation
It appears where you are already looking. Turn arrows and lane guidance render in the instrument cluster and head-up display, in your line of sight, so your eyes stay on the road rather than dropping to a screen clamped to the dashboard.
It works with no signal at all. The map lives on the car’s hard drive, so tunnels, mountain passes, underground car parks and rural stretches with no coverage make no difference to guidance.
It knows the car. On electric and hybrid models the navigation reads state of charge and consumption to plan charging stops; it feeds predictive shifting and adaptive cruise; and it needs no cable, mount or phone battery to do any of it.
The strongest setup is both: current built-in maps for cluster, head-up display and offline routing, plus Apple CarPlay for your phone’s own apps on compatible systems.
