Map Regions Explained — & Imported Cars
Maps are licensed per region. Which one is your car on, when a standard update is right, and when you need a region change instead.
BMW & MINI maps aren’t global — each release covers one region, and your car is licensed for exactly one. Order the wrong region and the update won’t help you; drive an imported car and you may need a region change, not an update. Two minutes clears it all up.
The 17 map regions
Every system we cover ships maps for these regions: North America · Europe (East & West) · Australia/NZ · Middle East · Israel · Turkey · South America · Argentina · Southeast Asia · India · China/HK/Macau · Japan · Korea · Taiwan · Central Asia · North Africa · South Africa.
Your car’s current region shows in its map name — e.g. Road Map EUROPE EVO 2025-2. Check yours with the 2-minute identification guide.
Same-region updates — the normal case
If you drive where your car is licensed, you simply order the latest map for that region. Our map packages always ship the newest release for your exact region and system, with a matching FSC code.
Imported car? You need a region change
A car imported from Japan showing JAPAN maps in Europe can’t fix that with a standard update — the license itself must change. A region change re-issues a VIN-locked FSC for your new region plus the matching map. It’s a slightly different service: send us your VIN and your current + desired region and we’ll quote the exact package.

Frequently asked questions
Can one car hold two regions at once?
No — the head unit runs one licensed region at a time. Crossing borders within your region (e.g. all of Europe) is fine; switching continents needs a region change.
How do I know which region my imported car has?
The map name on the version screen shows it — see the identification guide. If the menus are in another language, your VIN tells us instead.
Are region changes available for every system?
Most systems, yes — availability depends on the head unit and target region. Send your VIN via support and we’ll confirm within the hour.
